Spinach Rant


If the urban myth that "after an atom bomb explodes, the only living creature to survive is a cockroach" has any truth in it, then the poor buggers will be eating boiled spinach.

HOW TO BOIL SPINACH -Place a dumper-truck of spinach into a thimble with a tear drop, and boil for five minutes. You will be left with a mushy mixture that looks like frog vomit, floating in a pool, tastes worse than it looks, is vile to the touch, and retains water more than an obese teenager. It doesn't matter how much you try to squeeze the last drop of nutrients out of it, it is still wet. The only difference is, your hands, and/or anything else you use, will then be green.

If that's not bad enough, try chopping it! It doesn't matter how much you chop it, it looks exactly like the same repulsive, slimy blob you started with.


BUT! THAT SAID, SOMETHING MAGICAL HAPPENS WHEN YOU ADD IT TO AN OMELETTE!

SO HERE WE GO!

INGREDIENTS

green mush that used to be 1/2 a bag of spinach before being boiled in lightly salted water,

3 rashers of bacon cut into strips,

3 eggs,

a spoonful of sour or fresh cream,

a large knob of butter,

salt, pepper, and olive oil.

STEPS

1)Gently fry the bacon in a covered frying-pan, with the butter and a drizzle of olive oil. The olive oil stops the butter from burning.

2)When the bacon begins to brown, add the spinach, and continue frying on a slow flame. Add a pinch of salt, but no more, the bacon will contain salt already.

3)Whilst the bacon and spinach gently fry, beat the eggs with the sour or fresh cream, a pinch of salt, and a little pepper.

4)When the bacon is nicely browned, add the beaten egg mix, and give it a quick stir to make sure the bacon and spinach are evenly spread around the pan.

5)When the edges of the omelette can be lifted (separated) easily from the pan, remove the pan from the flame, and place it in the centre of a preheated oven at 180°c until it starts to brown. The omelette should be firm but spongy by this point. Remove it from the oven, and allow to cool a little.

6)THAT'S IT !! ENJOY YOUR FROG-VOMIT OMELETTE !
